. newark mayor cory booker will be joining us, but let's begin tonight as i really should begin almost every night, with an apology. we've had a bit of fun here over the years concerning what is commonly referred to this time of year as the war on christmas where a small band of 70% of the country have fought tirelessly for the right to openly celebrate the feast day of their lord's birth, to have a mass on that day honoring their christ, a mass christ, if you will. delays. gabe gutierrez is in atlanta. you're watching the entire country and newark, one of the spots. >> reporter: that's right, richard. it's not too bad in atlanta right now. it's actually moving around pretty well. certainly nothing like a widespread cancellation that we saw on thursday and friday, but as you mentioned there are minor headaches up in the northeast. wind is proving to be a problem in newark right now. we are told there is an average of 45-minute delay there due to wind and wind also delayed flights in washington earlier today. washington dulles, and it was a problem there and we are told that started to clear up and in the midwest, kansas city had long lines, as well and out west, rain slowed down some of the air traffic and san francisco this morning. a lot of people that were paying attention to the weather reports said nearly one in four americans will travel in the next few days and they'll be taking advantage of the longer break with christmas and new year's both falling on a tuesday this year. back here in atlanta, travelers here are thankful that it is not q

in the northeast. la guardia and newark and boston have been two of the big areas that we have seen delays between one and three hours for some. long delays tonight continue in the northeast and a lot of that is wind related. most of the rain has left even as far northeast at boston. the winds have been gusting between 30 and 40 miles per hour. san francisco, oh, it has been a tough go for you if you're watching from the airports. we've had between three and four-hour delays and the rain and low visibility and fog and that will continue in san francisco. the hardest hit areas tomorrow and sunday. all right. for the northeast, for tomorrow, windy and much cooler, temperatures precipitously dropped 50 tonight in boston and dropping down into the 30s, and will feel much colder than that. quiet, though, in the northeast and the midwest and for sunday, the biggest stormy spot will be on sunday. it will be in of course the west coast and along the west coast. so here is a look at the weekend travel picture. here is the storm. it is exiting the country and exiting the northeast and tomorrow clear skies a

delays. today is no different. washington, d.c. an hour plus delay for you. newark there all morning. fort lauderdale has trouble at the airport but that is not wind related. san francisco, the rain an inundation with rain today for you, as well. big picture today, the wind and rain and, of course, the snow off the great lakes in the northeast. the rain and mountain snow in the sierra we'll be tallying it up to feet of snow. some incredible ski conditions, but the balance of the country today is dry and a little bit colder than where we should be this time of year. a white christmas, look at the swathe of it. meet logically a white christmas is when there's an inch of snow on ground christmas morning. it doesn't have to be knowing at that time. so much of the countries will see that. but the forecast for christmas here in the northeast, not out of the question for boston and new york to see snow flurries. in the northeast predominantly it will be dry and cool. atlanta rain for you on christmas. nashville, as well. so cloudy and a little bit of rainy in the southeast. in the upper mid

not reporting many delays and there's a 15-minute delay in newark and not a huge problem. san francisco reported a bigger delay today due to rain. as we look at video from other parts of the country, from st. louis and from kansas city, there's not much of a problem there. there are some long lines and for the most part travelers have gotten to where they needed to go. there are other problems, however, in the northeast and places like upstate new york, virginia and pennsylvania. snow has snarled traffic there and there is some concern that on the west coast, as well, there could be issues. for the most part, traffic is doing much better today than it did in the past two days, thursday and friday. more than 1600 cancellations throughout the country and so far today only about 75 according to flight aware.com. again, here in atlanta, it could be a whole lot worse, richard. >> they have more runways and 405 will be more difficult. gabe gutierrez at the atlanta hartsfield international airport. we'll check back in with you, thanks. >>> egyptians are going back to the polls on the constitution. the
